The Public Prosecutor in Damascus directs the initiation of a public lawsuit against Sister Agnes Mariam. Human rights sources reported that the Public Prosecutor of the Syrian Arab Republic issued an official directive to the First Public Prosecutor in Damascus, ordering the necessary legal measures to be taken against Sister Agnes Mariam, based on controversial accusations.
According to lawyer Basil Saeed Manea, the directive aims to initiate a public lawsuit against the nun, in preparation for referring her to the investigative judge in Damascus to consider a list of charges related to her positions and statements during the years of conflict. The charges include her holding the “rebels” responsible for carrying out chemical attacks during the Syrian revolution, in addition to her public calls for Israeli military intervention in Syria. These positions, the prosecution considered, violate national sovereignty and incite foreign intervention.
Mixing politics and religion is never good. The people in Syria have a right to have peace and all this talk over the past and comparisons of leaders and their sins incites more violence and could lead to more attacks by revenge seekers and outsiders. The path to peace is unification not division. Mother Agnes Mariam should stick to Godly works as the bible teaches, Syrians want a bright future and path forward.
